Have you noticed how many women are in network marketing?
The numbers have grown phenomenoloy over the last decade or so. In fact, the Direct Selling Association (DSA) have counted that about 78% of direct sellers are women.
This makes sense as direct selling is a very flexible business model where you can earn a full-time wage only working part-time hours, therefore making it very popular amongst working women and stay at home mums.
The other reason why network marketing is so popular amongst women is that women are very good at it. So much so, that many women are seeing huge financial rewards for only working a few hours per week. Lets take a look at eight reasons why so many women are in direct selling and why they excel in it over their male counterparts.
1) Women Are Great Multi-Taskers
Women are renowned for their multi-tasking and men are renowned for their lack of multi-tasking skills. This is a great quality and strength to have in network marketing as you literally have to be very versatile and wear many different hats to run this type of business.
Women are good multi-taskers because they tend to be methodical thinkers and logically work out and juggle the tasks ahead. Women need to be good at multi-tasking as they are primarily responsible for the smooth running and functioning of their household first and foremost, then business comes second.
Whether this be naturally in-built or is something that us women learn from an early age no one knows for sure, but it’s certainly a great asset to have.
2) Good Leaders
There has been a lot of analysis and research into the different ways men and women carry out their roles as leaders, and upon reading the two articles below from CBS News and Forbes, I see that women came out on top. Why is this?
Well, according the article in Forbes, women make better leaders because they have strengths in communication, empathy, clearer vision, a better perspective and a mature approach and being able to think long-term.
3) Naturally Social
Network marketing is very much a people’s business and you really need to be social to make it work for you. Most women just love to be sociable which is probably one of the main reasons why women are good in this type of business.
I think most women cannot believe that they are getting paid to run party plans and socialize with other women over a coffee or a glass of wine. Of course a lot of mundane background work needs to be undertaken too but the majority of direct selling is sociable.
4) An Open, Friendly Communicator
This comes down to the different psychology between men and women. Women view many things differently than men and communication is one of those differences. So how do women communicate differently than men?
Women are a lot more open than men therefore they share their thoughts as well as the information being presented. Women tend to ‘think out loud’ which is a great communication medium because this can open up other discussions. This ‘openness’ gets the task or opportunity in hand discussed and dissected at deeper levels which covers all angles and gets the job done fully.
Some men just can’t help their testosterone getting in the way of being a leader and how they communicate and share their information. This can lead to an intimidating approach which is not how you win and influence people to join your team.
Most women on the other hand have a natural non-intimating approach to communicating and sharing information with others. Women try to ‘be-friend’ new people first before they approach new distributors to join their team.
6) Natural Nurturer’s
Although there is no scientific evidence that women have a biological in-built natural nurturing instinct, in general, women to tend to have a more friendly, welcoming and nurturing approach to making people feel comfortable and at ease in their company.
This is yet another benefit in the art of network marketing as women can build, nurture and grow a very successful, strong and happy team.
7) The Right Kind of Motivation
Motivation is everything in self-employment and is equally as important in direct selling. But there are different kinds of motivation to make you strive to be successful.
For women, motivation to succeed will include:
- Not wanting to go back into employment but to make money by being a home-based mom;
- To show their male counterparts that women can be just as successful, if not more, than men;
- Have a general interest in self-improvement/personal development;
- Women are not generally egotistical or claim that they already know everything;
- Are fully willing to learn.
Whereas most men cannot help but be ‘in competition’ with each other which isn’t always the best type of motivation to have in business.
8) Quick Learners
The ability to learn new things quickly is a great trait to have in network marketing as you can grow your businesses at a faster level. With the right kind of motivation coupled with the willingness and eagerness to learn are why the majority of women are successful in multi level marketing.
Again, this comes down to not claiming that they already know everything and not having an egotistical attitude, but having the willingness to learn new things and then take their new learning’s on board and running away with them to the highest levels.
This is an ideal business if you want to be a stay at home mum and run a business around your children. It’s as flexible as you want it to be and as part-time as you want it to be and still come away with a decent monthly income.
Or if you don’t have children, network marketing via Party Plans is a fun way to socialise, get a salary and become self-employed around a full-time job, to eventually making the transition from being employed to self-employment.
